Witness

Meet the faces behind the sound and fuel the music.

Rin Navarro is the keyboardist and backing vocalist of the band, known for her atmospheric soundscapes and haunting harmonies that give the group its emotional depth.

As a child, her family often traveled back to the Philippines to visit relatives and friends after moving to the United States when she was young. Being raised between different cultures gave her a deep appreciation for music that connects with people across the world.

Rin is introverted at times, often observing more than speaking, but she is strongly opinionated when it matters and fiercely loyal to her friends and family. Her music reflects that balance—quiet emotion layered beneath powerful intensity..

Marcus “Bones” Calder is the guitarist and one of the lyricists behind Weight Without Witness, and he occasionally lends his vocals to some of their songs.

He became interested in guitar during his high school years, channeling his creativity through music. Much of his early inspiration came from his friendship with Jason, who spent much of his life in and out of hospitals battling illness. Watching his friend struggle, along with the hardships surrounding his own family and those close to him, gave Marcus a deeper perspective that would later shape the band’s sound and lyrical themes.

His playing carries both intensity and restraint, often reflecting the quiet weight of the experiences that inspired it.

Marcus believes that music exists to give form to the things people carry but rarely say out loud.

His philosophy:

“Everyone carries ghosts.
Music just gives them a voice.”

Ethan Shizuyama grew up in a quiet middle-class neighborhood where life was predictable in the best way. His father worked as an electrical engineer and his mother was a school librarian. Their home was always filled with music—classic rock, old metal records, and the occasional Japanese city-pop album from his father’s collection.

Ethan discovered singing when he was thirteen after filling in for a missing vocalist in a small garage band formed by friends from school. What started as something casual quickly turned into the thing that defined him. His voice had a rare quality—clean and emotional in one moment, raw and explosive the next.

In high school he met Amelia “Lia” Amano, a quiet but fiercely supportive girl who became the center of his world. She was there for every early rehearsal, every bad demo recording, and every tiny show where only a handful of people showed up. She believed in Ethan and the band before anyone else did.

The two stayed together through graduation and the early years of the band that would eventually become Weight Without Witness.

Everything changed last year when Lia passed away unexpectedly.

Gage Jones is the drummer and occasional vocalist for Weight Without Witness. Known for his explosive energy behind the kit, Gage’s journey into music began as a way to quiet a restless mind.

As a kid, he could never sit still for long. His thoughts constantly drifted, and focus always seemed just out of reach. Everything changed when his aunt Rose—who raised him—gave him a pair of drumsticks and a small drum. For the first time, he found something that could hold his attention and channel his energy.

Drumming became more than a hobby; it became his anchor.

Even now, Gage still struggles with wandering thoughts and daydreaming, but his friends, family, and bandmates help keep him grounded. That support fuels the passion he brings to every performance.

Recently, Gage has begun writing some of the band’s songs and exploring new creative directions. He’s even considering launching his own side project—another outlet for the ideas constantly racing through his mind.

For Gage, music isn’t just rhythm.
It’s focus, expression, and the place where his chaos finds its beat.
